I discovered that my son was allergic to nuts. After experiencing how this impacted our lives I was looking for extra support, and I was interested in preventing allergies in other children. When I was pregnant with my second child, I participated in the ORIGINS project's SYMBA study. I felt that participating in studies could help other families avoid diseases or if the health issue is detected earlier then treatment could be more successful.
Through participating in the study, I felt that the health of my children was better cared for because they were taking measurements, giving me advice, and making me aware of their health. Another benefit that I experienced was an improvement in my mental health. Being part of CONNECT makes you feel important, valued and part of society. It is a valuable experience and the people receiving your family's contribution are really appreciative.
