On 11 May 2017, over 60 attendees from throughout Australia convened in Darwin for a one-day Annual Meeting to discuss the progress of the END RHD CRE research projects, national RHD advocacy and the development of the final Endgame output.
Key discussion points arising from the meeting included:
The passion and dedication to close the gap in prevention and treatment of the disease was clearly evident amongst the attendees and it was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas and brainstorm solutions to finally put an end to this preventable condition. View the full report from the 2017 Annual Meeting for more information.
Katherine resident Kenya McAdam shared her story as part of the END RHD CRE media promotions in Darwin. Diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease as a 14-year-old, Kenya underwent open heart surgery and must now endure a painful penicillin injection for the foreseeable future. Kenya teamed up with Telethon Kids Institute Director Jonathan Carapetis to share the work of the END RHD CRE, speaking live on Darwin’s Territory FM, being interviewed by numerous newspapers such as The Australian and appearing on the ABC News. Thanks to Kenya’s involvement, the END RHD CRE received extensive media coverage throughout Australia.
