Ivana Matic Girard is a UWA PhD student working with the PLAYCE (PLAY Spaces and Environments for Children’s Physical Activity, Health & Development) Research Group. Prior to joining the Telethon Kids Institute as a PhD student, Ivana spent 8 years working as a Research Assistant/Analyst and a Senior Health Promotion Officer for Healthy Lifestyle at Aspetar – Qatar Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Hospital.
Ivana believes that early prevention, through translation of research evidence into practice, is a key to improving health outcomes. Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings play an important role in building healthy physical activity behaviours in young children. Embedding physical activity policy and educator physical activity related practices at ECECs give Australian children the best start to happy, healthy life.
The main focus of Ivana’s PhD is the scale-up of physical activity policy and practice in ECECs in Australia.
Ivana holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Newcastle, Australia.
