Kanita Kunaratnam is a postdoc working with the PLAYCE (PLAY Spaces and Environments for Children’s Physical Activity, Health & Development) Research Group. She works on the PLAYCE Policy Project which is developing early childhood education and care specific physical activity policy. Kanita has a unique combination of research skills and health promotion experience. Previously Kanita was Dietitian and Manager for the Child and Adolescent Program of the Health Promotion Board in Singapore which involved developing obesity prevention strategies for the early years and nutrition protocols and policies for children and youth. Her PhD at the University of Sydney involved looking into maternal and child factors that are associated with diet and weight status among preschool children.
Kanita is an accredited dietitian with the Dietitians Association of Australia. She has a background in nutrition and dietetics and has over 15 years of experience working as a dietitian in many different sectors including in-patient and out-patient clinics, hospitals, public health and community health settings and teaching in academic institutions.
Her research interests are in Child and maternal health and nutrition, Nutrition policy, Public health and Childhood obesity.
