A Professor in the UWA Centre for Child Health Research and an Adjunct Professor in the UWA School of Population and Global Health, Professor de Klerk was originally trained in England.
He was Head of the Occupational Respiratory Epidemiology Group in the Department of Public Health (now the School of Population and Global Health) at UWA before joining the Telethon Kids Institute in 2000.
Professor de Klerk's knowledge and expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics sees him advising and collaborating with many of the research groups within the Institute, the broader PCH campus, and elsewhere. He also manages the WA Twin Register.
Since 2015, he has co-authored over 80 research papers with Institute staff and others. He is a Chief Investigator on several large competitive research grants from the Australian Research Council and the National Health and Medical Research Council among others.
He has co-supervised 14 doctoral students to completion since 2011, and is currently supervising another 4.
